On Our God
WE BELIEVE in the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. We believe that this is One God, eternal and self existent, self-revealed and manifested to Man as Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Each fully God yet each personally distinct from the other. God is the creator of everything. [Deuteronomy 6:4; Mark 12:29; Isaiah 43:10-11; Matthew 28:19.]
On the Authority of the Scriptures
WE BELIEVE in the Divine inspiration and authority of the 66 books of the Holy Bible as the complete canon of God's testimony to mankind. We are committed to esteeming Scripture as the very Word of God, inerrant in its original form. We do not accept any doctrine which contradicts Scripture. [II Timothy 3:16; I Peter 2:2.]
We do not accept any spiritual experience as having its source in the Holy Spirit that does not have a precedent in Scripture. We do not accept any revelation, vision, dream, prophecy or discernment as truth which contradicts Scripture, or cannot be verified by it. Contemporary Prophecy and supernatural experience are subject to the Authority of the Bible.
We do not believe that any other writings are vested with the same divine authority as the canon of Scripture.
On The Place of Man
WE BELIEVE in the inherent dignity of Man [Psalm 8:5]. Man is a created being, made in the image and the likeness of God chiefly for His own Glory. Male and Female made He them [Genesis 1:27, 5:2]. We believe that Man was created by God from the dust of the earth, Innocent before God – without sin or the knowledge of good and evil. This estate and state was lost through the Fall. The first man, Adam, transgressed the command of God, and as God had warned, the process of death entered him and all of his descendants because of that transgression.
Therefore, all have sinned and are worthy of the sentence of death. All men everywhere are lost in sin and face the judgement of the Almighty God. All Mankind needs to come to a saving knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ through His shed blood on the Cross. We believe that, through the Son of Man, Mankind has access to regeneration unto Righteousness, sanctification and glorification.
WE BELIEVE in the tripartite nature of Man – spirit, soul and body. We believe that, as a spirit, Man is eternal and therefore all will partake in the resurrection – “some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt” [Daniel 12:2, Matthew 7:21-23; Revelation 20:11-15; John 5:29].
On The Problem of Sin
WE BELIEVE that everyone, regardless of race, gender, social class, or intellectual ability, is created in God’s image and for communion with God. But because of Sin, that communion was broken and all of humanity was separated from God, the source of all life. Because of the Fall of Man, everyone deserves God’s judgment.
On The Person of Jesus Christ
WE BELIEVE in Jesus Christ, the second Person of the Trinity. Jesus Christ is the Word (Logos) of God. The Word was with God in the beginning, which states His pre-existence as one with God. "By Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth" [Colossians 1:16, John 1:1-3], therefore making Jesus the Creator.
Jesus Christ is the Purpose of God found in all of creation. He is the Father's delight and desire, and the Father is looking for the emanation of His Son in all created things. Jesus is the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. In the beginning, it was the ultimate purpose of God for all things to be summed up in Christ [Ephesians 1:10].
Jesus Christ, Who pre-existed with God in the form of God, emptied Himself to become fully a man that He might be the propitiatory sacrifice for the sins of mankind. Through His propitiatory sacrifice made on the cross, all who believe in Him and His sacrifice have their sins remitted and are restored to the fellowship with God lost by man's transgression.
Jesus was born of a virgin, by the seed of the Holy Spirit. His virgin birth is a testimony that only the Spirit can beget that which is spirit. Those of the new creation are not solely of human origin, but are born from above by the Holy Spirit. He led a sinless life, took on Himself all our sins, died and rose again, and is seated at the right hand of The Father God. The resurrection of Jesus' physical body after His crucifixion was literal, as will be the resurrection of both the just and the unjust on the Day of Judgment. Literally, He will return to consummate history and to fulfill the eternal plan of God.
He sits as our mediator and advocate. "There is one God, and one mediator also between God and men, the man Christ Jesus" [I Timothy 2:5]. All who seek restoration and fellowship with God must go through Jesus and cannot approach God through any person, spirit or doctrine. It is also a supreme presumption for any person or institution to seek to be mediator for others in place of Christ Jesus Himself.
The apostolic commission was for His followers to labour until Christ was formed in His church, to present every person complete in Christ, and to manifest the sweet aroma of the knowledge of Him in every place. When Jesus is lifted up, He will draw all people to Himself. We consider it the primary purpose of the church to esteem and exalt Jesus in every way.
On The Atonement and Salvation
WE BELIEVE that all have sinned and are therefore under the sentence of death. As such, all must trust in the atoning sacrifice of Jesus for the remission of sins. There is no other way to reconcile with God or escape from eternal judgment, except through the propitiatory sacrifice of Jesus.
Those who trust in Jesus Christ have access to the Throne of Grace by His sacrifice and by His sacrifice alone. Good works are acceptable to God only as a love offering given to Him because of His worthiness, and have no bearing on our acceptance, standing or approval, all of which were accomplished by the cross. Good works offered for the purpose of acceptance, standing or approval are therefore an affront to the cross by which all of these things were gained for us by Jesus. Good works are not offered for His approval, but for His joy and glory, and must be offered through the Son [I Peter 2:5] in obedience to Him. Therefore, the goal of our service is obedience and not sacrifice.
On the New Birth
Believing in our hearts that Jesus is the Son of God and in His propitiation made for our salvation results in a regeneration and renewal that constitutes our new birth into new creations. Although this does not imply immediate perfection in our temporal life or lifestyle, it does mean that true faith will result in a radical change in us. Being "born again" implies a new beginning, not an ending. Christian maturity in faith, truth and life is a process. Even so, this process must begin with spiritual regeneration or new birth. While it is possible to change our behavior without regeneration, changing our hearts requires the new birth, and it is our hearts upon which God looks.
On the Ministries of Christ
We believe in the full function of the five-fold ministry which was given to perfect and equip the saints so they can enter into the work of their ministry, thereby edifying the whole Body of Christ. [Ephesians 4:11-16; I Corinthians 12:28] We believe in the present-day ministries of the apostles and prophets, which Christ has set in the Church as foundational and revelational ministries. We believe these two ministries will be restored to function in full power and authority before the literal second coming of Christ. [Ephesians 2:20; Acts 3:21]
THE PERSON OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
On The Person of the Holy Spirit
WE BELIEVE in The Holy Spirit, the third Person of the Trinity. He convicts the world of sin and gives new life to those who trust in Jesus. He indwells all believers and is available to empower them to lead Christ-like lives. In order to serve fellow believers and reach out to a lost and needy world, to believers, The Holy Spirit is at work through His gifts, fruits and anointed ministers. [Acts 2:39; Romans 12:6-8; I Corinthians 12:1-11; Galatians 5:22-23; Ephesians 4:11; I Corinthians 12:28.] We believe that the gifts of the Holy Spirit are given to every believer and need to be activated and exercised to fulfill their divine pur¬pose of blessing the Body of Christ. [Acts 2:39; II Timothy 1:6].
On the Baptism of the Holy Spirit
WE BELIEVE that the "baptism in the Holy Spirit" is an additional impartation which may be subsequent to regeneration [see Acts 8:15-17 and 19:1-6]. This baptism is usually accompanied by the gifts of the Spirit, such as speaking in tongues, prophecy, etc. Such a baptism empowers the believer to be effective for Christ. [Acts 1:8; Acts 2:39; 1 Corinthians 14:2; Jude 20; I Corinthians 14:18; Acts 19:1-6.]
We believe that this gift is presently available to all who believe [Acts 2:38-39], but is not essential for salvation or regeneration. While these are accomplished by the Holy Spirit [Acts 19:1-7], there were disciples who did not even know that there was a Holy Spirit. Just as Paul made it a priority to instruct those believers and pray for them to receive this gift, we are committed to doing the same.
The purpose of the baptism in the Holy Spirit is to impart spiritual power to the believer to be a witness [Acts 1:8, 5:32]. This baptism is to be distinguished from being filled with the Spirit [Acts 4:31, 7:55, 13:9,52], which can be a special and repeated empowering for specific purposes. We believe that when Christians truly have been baptized with the Holy Spirit, they should begin to take on His nature and fruit, becoming “helpers” and “comforters”, leading others into truth, and testifying of Jesus.
On the Present Ministry of the Holy Spirit
We believe that “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever” [Hebrews 13:8] and that His ministry in and through the church by the Holy Spirit has not changed from the beginning. We accept, acknowledge, encourage and seek all of the biblical gifts and ministries of the Holy Spirit as present and vital for the church to accomplish her full purpose today. [John 14:16]
On Prophecy
WE BELIEVE that God speaks today. We believe that hearing from God, both individually as members and corporately as a church and association of churches, through prophecy or any other biblical means chosen by God to communicate, is essential to our faith and walk with God.
Prophecy and prophetic utterance is only one method of discerning God’s will and direc¬tion and it is recognized that none of the methods or channels of prophecy will always be 100 percent accurate and actions should not be taken on the basis of prophetic words alone without other confirmation. We believe that prophetic presbytery serves the purpose in the Body of Christ in activating, establishing, releasing, commissioning, and ordaining gifts to their office, function, and place of relationship and/or leadership. [I Corinthians 14:3, Ephesians 4:11; Ephesians 2:20; I Timothy 4:14; Acts 13:1-3; Titus 1:5; Romans 12:6; I Peter 4:10; I Corinthians 14:39; I Corinthians 14:1; I Thessalonians 5:19-21; I Timothy 5:22; II Timothy 1:6.]
WE BELIEVE in the contemporary operation of the Office of the Prophet, related in operation to the canonical prophets, yet distinct in mandate from them, owing to the Ministry of Christ Jesus. We believe that “God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, Hath in these last days spoken unto us by His Son, whom He hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also He made the worlds” [Hebrews 1:1-2], and that the Son, Christ Jesus, in fulfilling the epitome of the Promised Prophet [Deuteronomy 18:14-22, John 6:14], in His turn established the New Testament Office of the Prophet [Ephesians 5:11], and commissions contemporary Prophets into His diverse labours [Matthew 23:34].
HOLY ORDINANCES
On The Holy Communion
WE BELIEVE in the ordinance of the Lord's Supper in remembrance of Jesus and as a testimony of our communion with Him in His body, the church. We consider it a holy ordinance, but we do not accept the teaching that communion is for the purpose of remitting sins, which Scripture testifies is based solely in the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross [Hebrews 9:25-28].
On Water Baptism
WE BELIEVE that water baptism should be by immersion and accomplished immediately after commitment to the Lordship of Jesus and His atoning sacrifice for our sin. This ordinance is a personal and public statement of faith in the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ on our behalf, and is a commitment to lay down our lives to be one with Him in His death, burial and resurrection. [Matthew 28:19, 1 Corinthians 10:1-4] We believe that water baptism identifies us with the death and burial of Christ, and that we should arise to walk in newness of life. [Romans 6:3-9; I Peter 3:21.].
On The Church
WE BELIEVE that the true Church is composed of such persons who, through saving faith in Jesus Christ, have been regenerated by the Holy Spirit. [I Peter 2:4-5; Ephesians 2:19-22] All believers are members of the Body of Christ, the one true church universal. Spiritual unity is to be expressed among Christians by acceptance and love of one another across ethnic, cultural, socio-economic, national, generational, gender, and denominational lines.
The local church is a group of believers who gather for worship, prayer, instruction, encouragement, mutual accountability, community with each other, and as a witness to the world.
WE BELIEVE that the church is the Body of Christ expressed as the church individual, the church local and the church universal and invisible. As such we believe the church to be more than just a building or a gathering of people. It is a body living in relationship and harmony under direction of the head, Jesus Christ. [I Corinthians 6:15; II Corinthians 1:1; Romans 16:5; I Peter 2:4-5; Ephesians 2:19-22; I Corinthians 12:12-31; Romans 12:4-5; Ephesians 4:11-16.]
WE BELIEVE that in all matters concerning the Body of Christ, in its direction, discipline, ministry and functioning that specific guidance and instruction, revelation and discernment of truth from falsehood, is available by the leading of the Holy Spirit who enables us to know spiritual things by the Spirit. [Acts 13:1-3; I Timothy 1:18; Romans 8:14; I Timothy 5:22; John 16:13-15; I Corinthians 5:3.]
On Church Membership
WE BELIEVE that the Church, by its very composition, is a membership organization. The local church is the manifestation within our society of The Church. Each local church exists for an express purpose in God’s plan. Individual members of the Body of Christ will wish to associate with our congregation as members. All believers are members of The Church. The Lord will set some of those members of The Church into this local congregation as members as it pleases him. As members of this local congregation they are given into the care and oversight of the leadership which must give an account to God for their souls. The elders of this church shall have the right to determine who may attend church meetings and functions. This church is owned by the Lord Jesus Christ who has entrusted the care of the flock to the leadership he has raised up here. It is not a place of public accommodation, nor is it a public institution, and its property is not a public place but is, rather, private property belonging to this church. [Acts 20:28-31; II Peter 2:1-3; I Timothy 1:20; 6:5; I Corinthians 5:1-13; II Thessalonians 3:6-15; II John 9-11; II Timothy 3:1-5; Titus 3:10-11; Romans 16:17].
On the Great Commission
WE BELIEVE that Christ wants the members of His Church to carry the Gospel into all the world. [Matthew 28:18-20; Acts 1:8] We believe that the Church of Jesus Christ is God’s instrument to establish and extend God’s Kingdom until the literal coming of Christ to reign over all the earth. [Revelations 11:15.]
WE BELIEVE in the exemplary conduct of regenerated and sanctified Christians as an indispensable witness to the Gospel of the Kingdom of God. We acknowledge Holy Christian living, and that we must have concern for the hurts and social needs of our fellow Men – those with whom we share the Faith; those with whom we share community; and those with whom we share Humanity.
On Relations of Church and State
WE BELIEVE that God has entrusted the church the solemn Biblical responsibility of being the conscience of society, culture and government. As such the church has a duty before God to speak to the issues that arise from and relate to society, culture and government. Specifically, the church, in the tradition of the prophets, is required to call government to account before God for the actions taken by the government with the view toward keeping the government in its proper role and relationship as a steward under God of the resources of the nation. [I Kings 18:18; II Chronicles 15:1-4; Matthew. 5:13-14; Acts 12:23; I Samuel 15:14-35.]
The church has a divine mandate to practice its Faith and mandate as dictated by God. The earth is The LORD’s and the fullness thereof. The church is the blood-bought bride of Christ of whom Jesus is the Head, the Lord and the only Master.
As such we categorically reject any and all claims by the state to headship or sovereignty over the church. When earthly governments leave their God-ordained sphere of responsibility and seek to restrain, hamper or limit the church’s obedience to Christ in all areas of life, then the church must and will obey God rather than man and must also confront the government with its error and call it back to its proper place under God. [Exodus 8, 9, 10; Daniel 3, 6; Acts 4:19; 5:29].
On Ordinations
We do not believe that the administration of such ordinances is limited to ordained or licensed ministers. We believe in the priesthood of believers. Ordination and licensing in this church is a separation and recognition of a specific gifting of God. We believe that God calls men into specific ministries as apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors, and teachers. God calls. Man can only recognize the call and acknowledge it. Ordination is on the basis of that recognition of God’s gifting.
Men called to a specific office by God and ordained or licensed by this church will have the right to participate in the traditional sacramental and ordinal functions of the church such as marriage, funerals, baptisms, and the like. They shall also be expected to function in the spiritual giftings of their office and to demonstrate the reality of their calling. This church is a non-sacramental protestant church. We reject the efficacy of ritual and the concept of a separate priestly class. We recognize the priesthood of believers and the serving ministry of the apostle, prophet, evangelist, pastor, and teacher with government by elders.
As such, we recognize that those called to those offices will function in a manner to lead by example in prayer, worship, teaching, laying on of hands, and prophesying and that such actions on the part of those ordained and licensed by this church are equivalent to the sacramental function of the priesthood in traditional sacramental churches.
THE LAST THINGS
On the Second Coming of Christ
WE BELIEVE in the literal, physical return of the Lord Jesus Christ to take authority and rule on earth. We believe that those who are alive and remain at the return of our Lord will be changed and caught up to be with Him in the air. Those who have died in the faith will be resurrected and precede those who are alive in being changed and caught up to be with Him.
We believe in the literal, physical resurrection of both the just and the unjust for the Day of Judgment. For those of us who have been justified by faith in Jesus Christ and His sacrifice on our behalf, this resurrection is for eternal life in fellowship with God. Those who are not justified by faith in Jesus are resurrected for an eternal judgment.
